Makalu base camp Trek is one of the most popular trekking destinations suited for solo travel enthusiasts. High altitude terrains, a unique landscape with the amazing backdrop of snow-capped mountains and hidden ancient culturally rich communities are the highlights of this tough trekking trail.
Makalu Base camp lies within the Makalu Barun National Park is situated in the eastern part of Nepal. The trekking route is opened for the outsiders in recent years. The trails take you to the foothills of the world’s fifth highest mountain Mt. Makalu standing as tall as 8485m high. The area boasts a unique ecosystem and topography found rarely in any other region in the entire world. The lower regions are covered with a dense forest of rhododendrons and fir tree and various meadows that lead to the massive hanging glaciers land and uncountable waterfalls.
A popular off the beaten track, the trails towards Makalu Base camp brings you up close to nature and the shy human civilization residing in the hidden valleys and edges of the mighty Barun River coexisting by preserving and complementing the environment well.
Makalu base camp trekking is attracting trekkers all around the world in recent years as the words about its rare beauty is being widespread through various media. The wilderness is a perfect habitat for rare species of birds and wild animals. Nature lovers and environment researchers take this trekking to study birds that are not found in other parts of the world such as Wren-babbler, shy and elusive animals like red pandas and snow leopard, etc. Thriving in the harsh mountain environment, these animals have definitely imprinted their names at the legendary status – it is considered a valuable reward even to have the quickest sight.
The trekking to this tranquil and pristine region begins from Tumlingtar. You will take a short flight from Kathmandu. You will trek through beautiful villages of Num, Tasigaun, Seduwa, Mumbook, Sherson, Yangri kharka before reaching the basecamp. You will get time for acclimatization and much-needed rest adequately during the trek. The density of people gets thinner with the progression of the ascent.

Day 01: Welcome to Nepal - International Airport at Kathmandu
You will be received by our representative and transferred to your respective hotel.
Day 02: Full day of sightseeing of Kathmandu valley
Today you will take a sightseeing tour of historical and cultural monuments in Kathmandu Valley enlisted in UNESCO’s World Heritage sites– Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, Swayambhu Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Baudhanath Stupa and
Day 03: Flight to Tumlingtar Drive to Num
Take an early flight to Tumlingtar from where you will drive to Num village.
Day 04: Trek to Seduwa
Start the trek with wonderful views. A steep descent to Arun Khola follows an ascent towards the opposite side. Enter the Makalu National Park and obtain permits. Steep descent through Num and Lumbang. Take a rough ascend to Seduwa
Day 05: Trek to Tashigaon
Trek pass Manigaon and gradually ascend Kasuwa Khola and pass Chyaksadanda, Hindrungma and Ropesa. Climb more to reach Tashigaon
Day 06: Trek to Khongma La
An interesting hike through remote area filled with scrub and rhododendrons. Ascend the ridge and pass through forests to a stream and to Kharka. Finally the trail leads to Khongma la.
Day 07: Trek to Dobato
Head on steep path to the top of the ridge for astounding views of Chhamlang. Passing through ridge through rhododendron bushes, climb staircases and reach Ghungru La. Descend to a small lake then ascend to Shipton La, Keke La and to Dobato
Day 08: Trek to Yangle Kharka
After having breakfast at lodge, we start our trek and today and continue our trail westward through fir forests at the bottom of the Barun Valley while heading to Yangle Kharka
Day 09: Trek to Lengmale Kharka
Ascend through grasslands and forest to Lengmale Kharka
Day 10: Trek to Makalu Base Camp
Hike through a flat trail then descend to Perennial River before reaching Makalu Base Camp
Day 11: Explore Makalu Base Camp
Spend a day exploring around base camp
Day 12: Trek to Yangle Kharka
Start retracing back to Yangle Kharka.
Day 13: Trek to Dobato
Descend through the same landscapes. Ascend uphill passing through jungles with dense foliage all the way to Dobato
Day 14: Trek to Khongma
Descends further in steep path to Khongma la via Kali Pokhari
Day 15: Trek to Seduwa
Further hard descend towards Seduwa
Day 16: Trek to Tumlingtar
Trek to Num and drive to Tumlingtar
Day 17: Flight back to Kathmandu
Take a flight back to Kathmandu
Day 18: Final departure
You will be accompanied in a ride to the airport for the final departure.
