The Tamang Heritage Trekking is a relatively newer trekking trail. It combines Nature and Cultural Trek, locates in the Langtang region. The trail provides us with ample natural experience of High Mountain and beautiful landscape.
The region shares a border with Tibet. Therefore, people from this region follow Tibetan culture and practice. It seems the Tibet exists in outside of Tibet. From this area, people have a unique religion and identity which has not been dominated by outer culture yet.
The Tamang Heritage Trekking starts after having a day heritage sightseeing tour in Kathmandu, then a day drive to the trekking point, Syabrubesi. Entire our journey will be worthwhile and get a chance to be acquainted with nature, mountain and of course with the culture and people of this region.
We prepared a day to day itinerary, which may meet with your available holiday. If this does not match with your available time or would like to customize it, we will be more than glad to modify it.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will be waiting with a placard displaying either the group name or the Go Trek Nepal sign. After a warm welcome, the group will be transferred to the hotel for check-in.
Depending on the flight schedule, there may be time to explore the touristy town of Thamel with its vibrant shops and restaurants.
In the evening, Go Trek Nepal organizes a dinner program, serving as an introductory session with officials, the trek leader, and trekking crew. The GTN team will be happy to answer any questions during the dinner.
After breakfast, likely around 9 am, our tour leader will escort us to explore heritage sites including Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath.
After the day’s tour, there will be time for any last-minute shopping for trekking essentials.
After breakfast, we set off on a 7 to 8-hour drive to Syabrubesi, the starting point of our trek. The journey involves winding roads through hills, offering views of terrace farming, quaint houses, and settlements. As we reach the hill pass, stunning views of the Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and other mountain ranges unfold. After a long drive, we arrive at Syabrubesi for an overnight stay.
After a delicious mountain breakfast, we head towards Gatlang Village. Along the trail, we will pass through several mountain villages and enjoy scenic views of landscapes and high mountains such as Ganesh Himal, the Gosainkunda range, and Langtang Lirung. Upon arrival in Gatlang, our tour leader will arrange accommodation in a lodge
Today’s trek starts with a descent to Thangbuchet village, near Chilime Village. The Langtang mountain range and Ganesh Himal provide constant, stunning views. Upon reaching the Chilime Hydropower dam, one of Nepal’s largest projects, we ascend to Tatopani, meaning “hot water” in Nepali. Although the 2015 earthquake damaged the hot springs, making them unusable, the village still offers a unique experience. We will stay overnight at a lodge.
Today’s trek is the longest, but the captivating mountain views and Tamang villages make it enjoyable. We start by ascending through a lush forest to Nagthali Pass (3170m), where we are rewarded with panoramic views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Kerung, and Sanjen. After a great time at the pass, we descend to Thuman, a Tibetan-influenced Tamang village. Overnight stay in Thuman.
The trail leads through a dense rhododendron forest to Briddim, located at the foot of Langtang Mountain. Briddim, like Thuman, is strongly influenced by Tibetan culture. The village’s houses, built with rocks and slate roofs, and the local culture resemble those of Tibet. Upon arrival, we will check in at a lodge and explore the village and Dukchu Monastery.
After breakfast, we head back to Syabrubesi, marking the end of our memorable week-long Tamang Heritage Trail trek. The trail follows the Bhotekoshi River, passing through forests and mountainous farmland. We will stay overnight in a lodge at Syabrubesi.
In the morning, we drive back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, there will be time for souvenir shopping for friends and family back home. In the evening, Go Trek Nepal will organize a dinner program where we can share our experiences with GTN officials.
