Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking is the easiest Trekking Route in Annapurna Region. This Trek provides us a complete package in terms of Nature and Culture Exploration and, it is short and sweet trek for those who do not have time for weeks long trekking, avoid fatigue and getting in high altitude. Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking takes us up to 3210m, Poonhill. Furthermore, we will have time to observe quaint villages of the indigenous people Ghurung and Magars’  culture and practices.

The trekking starts from Nayapul, after half an hour drive from Pokhara, the second largest city of Nepal. The trail leads us uphill and downhill through lush forest of rhododendron, oaks, bamboos bush. And various other kind of species of plants. Along the trail, we can observe hilly region farmland, people’s culture and their livelihood. While passing through the villages on the trail, get a chance to observe people who based in touristy service like opening lodges, shops, and restaurants etc.

Available tea houses along on the trail are well managed and maintained hygienea. As Annapurna Conservation Areas Project provides training and facilitation to lodge owner, shopkeepers, restaurant owners etc. Now days, some lodges in Ghorepani and Ghandruk offer broadband internet service through WIFI, and Nepal Telecom and Ncell have access to get good reception of network and 4G service.

  • Day 09: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu
  • Day 10: Fly back to home

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, our staff member will be waiting for you at the passenger waiting stand with holding a sign of Go Trek Nepal. After transferring at the hotel, we will have time to get refresh then go to explore the touristy hub Thamel. In the Evening, Go Trek Nepal organize a welcome dinner party, which can be a informal ice-break with trek leader and crew members as well as staff member of Go Trek Nepal. Go Trek Nepal team will be glad to receive any questions regarding upcoming Trek of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek at this informal talking session.

Day 02: Temple Sightseeing

After having a breakfast at the hotel, likely at 9 am, our tour leader cannot wait us to escorts to explore temples and heritage sites in Kathmandu. First and foremost, we will go to visit Swayambhunath aka Monkey temple, located on the top of hill, in western side of our hotel, which is a shrine of Buddhist and Hindus. Similarly, the second place we go Patan Durbar Square, which used to be capital of the Malla Dynasty. The temples and palaces are well carved with perfect sculpture art. We will have lunch at Patan then we move to Pashupati Nath Temple, the largest Hindu Temple in Nepal. Due to rigid rule with Temple management, no Hindus are allowed to get in to the temple; however there are lots of things to see alongside the river banks including many shrines, wander holy men and crematory of Hindus. The last not the least of our today’s visit site is Boudhanath Stupa, Nepal largest stupa, decorated with long festoon of prayer flags. We can see many Buddhist pilgrims are going round to the gigantic stupa on the clockwise direction with spinning prayer wheel. There many monasteries around, we are allowed to visit and take snaps of the monastery.

After completing today’s sightseeing, we will back to the hotel and have free time that we can use for shopping if something leftover to buy.

Day 03: Drive From Kathmandu to Pokhara

Early in the morning, at 6, our trek leader will escort us to go to the tourist bust park to catch a bus to Pokhara. After driving one hour, we will get out from the valley and the bus starts down road towards county, which is drastically difference than Kathmandu. The highway, that we follow until halfway to Pokharak, is the busiest highway as it connects with India and all the supplies comes through this. Once we done 3 to 4 hours drive, the bus will stop for breakfast for half an hour. The distance between Kathmandu and Pokhara is 200 kilometer, due to winding road and busy traffic it takes about 6 to 7 hours to reach Pokhara. The road follows through alongside Trishuli, Marshyangdi River, after crossing Tanahu we will arrive in the vibrant but natural city, Pokhara.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, our trek leader will escorts us to explore Lakeside area Pokhara, which is a bustling touristy hub in Pokhara. We do have time to rowing boats in Phewa Lake, hire bicycle to explore Pokhara.

Day 04: Drive from Pokhra to Nayapul, Trek to Tikhedhunga (1577m) – 4 Hours

After having breakfast, we drive towards northwest to trekking point, Nayapul, for one and half hour. From Nayapul, the trekking trail leads us to Birethati by crossing a bridge over the Modi River. We show our permit, passport and other require document at the Birethati checkpoint then ascend to northwest direction. During trail, we see farmland, villages and community forest. Moreover, we see terrace farming system in hilly region and animal husbandry occupation of local people. By early evening, we will arrive at Tikhedhung, where we are stopping for overnight stay.

Day 05: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2840m) – 5 Hours

Today is quite challenging day, as we have to follow steep uphill trail with stone staircase until Ulleri Village, which may take about 2 to three hours. From Ulleri, the trail takes us semi flat uphill; however, we enjoy the view of Annapurna south, Nilgiri Mountain and widen valley that we cross yesterday. We pass shadowy lush forest of rhododendron, oak and other kind of trees which are covered with edible linchen. Once we arrived at Banthati, we will have lunch for half hour then our hiking goes on until we arrive at Ghorepani, locates at the saddle between Poonhill and Gurung Hill. Upon arrive at Ghorepani, we check in a tea-house lodge and if we have more time then we will go to explore around.

Day 06: Hike up to Poon Hill (3210m) and trek to Tadapani (2610m) – 5 Hours

Before down, the trek leader escorts us to make hiking at poonhill to view sunrise and festoon of mountain range. Poonhill is very famous view point among all mountain and hiking lovers. From Poonhil, we can get exhilarating sunrise views one by one over all the festoon mountains including Dhaulagiri Mountain (8167m), Annapurna I Mountain (8091m), Annapurna II Mountain (7937m), Annapurna III Mountain (7855m), Annapurna IV Mountain (7525m), Annapurna South Mountain (729m), Nilgiri Mountain (6940m), Tukuche Mountain (6920m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Lamjung Himal (6931m) and other mountains.

After returning to lodge, we take breakfast and pack up stuff then head towards Tadhapani though Gurung hill, a ridge, from where we can get spectacular views of may mountains that we saw from Poon Hill in morning but from different angle. We pass through shadowy forest which comprises with rhododendron, oaks, bamboo bushes etc. Including Annapurna South, Annapurna II, Fishtail and other mountains breathtaking views are scene in close up location from Tadhapani.

Day 07: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940m) – 4 Hours

As usual, we will have breakfast at the lodge and trek to Ghandruk. Relatively, today is shortest day of Ghorepani Poon Hill trek; however, we have lots of thing to enjoy and experience. The trail descends down trail to Ghandurk, which is the biggest Gurung Village, with quaint houses. We do have time to visit Gurung museum, and we can also hire their traditional costume for photo session. In evening, we may get a chance to take a part in traditional informal cultural program. Over all, Ghandruk stay will be a worthwhile time in terms of culture and nature, we will get spectacular views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and magnificent views of the valley and villages.

Day 08: Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul (1010m), then drive to Pokhara – 5 Hours

Today, it is our last but not least day of mountain trekking. We descend down to Phedi and drive to Pokhara. Upon arrival in Pokhara, we have time to explore beautiful places and organize other activities as per our interest like Paragliding, zip lining, bungee jumping, rowing, bat cave, davi’s fall etc.

Day 09: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu

In morning, at 8, we take flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu which takes about 35 minutes. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we check in the hotel and go for shopping to get souvenirs for friends and family back home. In the evening, Go Trek Nepal organize a farewell dinner program with trekkers and crew members and we will share our experience each other and make fun what we had any memorable during Ghorepani Poon hill mountain trek.

Day 10: Fly back to home

As per flight schedule, Go Trek Nepal arrange car to drop us to airport.
