Gosainkunda Helambu Trek is one of the astonishing trekking routes in the Langtang Trekking Region, easy, closest starts after having an hour’s drive from the busy Kathmandu. The trekking route leads us from 1300m up to 4400m elevation, provides a complete package of experience of both nature and culture.

The Gosainkunda Helambu Trek starts nearby the Shivapuri National Park, a reserved forest, comprises of lush forest. During initial days, a farming system in lower mountains, people, and their ethnic-culture, quaintly settled villages and livelihood make our trekking much enjoyable. Obviously, the beautiful landscape of uncountable hills, valleys, farmland, and snow-capped mountains get amazed us throughout the trek. While our footsteps ascend towards High Mountain, the views around will simultaneously be changed into more spectacular.

Outline Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1,360 m.) and transfer to Hotel
  • Day 02: Temples Sightseeing around Kathmandu. (1,300m)
  • Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (1,960 m) 6-7 hr. drive
  • Day 04: Trek from Dhunche to Shin Gompa (3,330 m) 6-7 hrs.
  • Day 05: Trek from Shin Gompa to Gosainkunda (4,380 m) 5-6 hrs.
  • Day 06: Trek from Ghopte to Melamchi Goun (2,470 m) 5-6 hrs.
  • Day 07: Trek from Melamchi Gaon to Tarkeghyang (2743m.) takes about three hours.
  • Days 08: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Shermathang (2621m.) takes about five hours.
  • Day 09: Trek from Shermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (846m.)
  • Day 10: Drive from Melamchi Pul Bazaar to Kathmandu takes about five hours.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1,360 m.) and transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport, our staff member will come to pick you up at the airport with holding a placard sign which state Go Trek Nepal sign. After picking up, you will be transfer to the hotel. After checking in hotel, you will have time to get freshen and rest and go to stroll around in touristy hob around Thamel. In evening, GTN organizes a dinner party which we can use as an ice-break session with trek leader and crews. You will also have time to raise questions regarding issues about forthcoming trek.

Day 02: Temples Sightseeing around Kathmandu. (1,300m)

After having breakfast, our tour leader escorts clients to the heritage sites of Kathmandu.1. Swayambhu Nath temple this temple located in the western part of Kathmandu city, known as a monkey temple, on the top of the hill. The monkey temple is a shrine of Buddhist and Hindus. 2. After completing Monkey temple tour, the clients will be escorted to Patan Durbar square towards southern part of Kathmandu. The paten durbar square is built by then Malla dynasties which includes many temples, castle and museum. After finishing tour for 1:30 hours, cliets will have time to have lunch then move to Pashupati Nath Temple. 3. The pashupati Nath temple is located on the bank of Bagmati river, however, non-Hindus are not allowed to get inter into the temple. Whatever rigid rule is, there are lot of thing see and observe Hindus crematory procession. 4. The last not the least temple is Bauddha Nath stupa, the biggest Stupa, including monasteries around, in Nepal. Many Tibetan and other Buddhist devotees are being seen spinning prayer wheels and bowing towards Stupa.

After completing Day tour, clients will have time to get shopping, if there any left and packing for trekking for tomorrows trekking.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (1,960 m) 6-7 hr. drive

The day starts, after having breakfast, trek leader escorts us towards trekking point, Dhunche, by a long day drive. In half an hour, we will get out from the busy Kathmandu valley and following winding uphill roads to Kakani hill station, then road descend down towards Trishuli bazaar. Along the road we will have time to view Langtang, Manashlu mountain range and quaint villages, traditional housing, and farmland in lower mountain region. From Betrawati, the road heads uphill towards Dhunche. After arrival at Dhunche, we will have time to explore around this village and check internet, and overnight stay.

Day 04: Trek from Dhunche to Shin Gompa (3,330 m) 6-7 hrs.

After having delicious breakfast at Dhunche, trail leads us forward by following motor road towards Ghatte Khola River. We cross a short suspension bridge, and the trail leads us alongside the river bank to rocky uphill trail, covered by lush forest that comprise rhododendron, oak and other various species of tree. Doing some hours efforts, we will arrive at Dimsa Village, and we will have lunch there, then move ahead towards our scheduled overnight point, Sing Gompa, has Buddhist Monastery, and Himalayan cheese factory. Upon arrival at Shin Gompa, we will check in a tea house lodge and stroll around to explore village, from where, we will have time to enjoy magnificent views of Langtang, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal.

Day 05: Trek from Shin Gompa to Gosainkunda (4,380 m) 5-6 hrs.

Today, we start our journey at usual time, is the most exciting day as we are reaching in the highest point, Gosainkunda Lake. After taking breakfast, the journey begins slowly towards uphill trail along with enjoying beautiful landscape, breathtaking mountain range, and passes. All along the trail, we cross Chandanbari, a mountainous dairy center, and widened steeply vertical pasture land. In hours hiking, we will arrive at our lunch point, Lauribina, then ascend steep hill towards Gosainkunda. After crossing an hour semi uphill trail, we will arrive at the saddle of Gosainkunda Lake (4380M). Gosainkunda, glacial lake, considered as a Holi place for Hindus, thousands of Hindus and Buddhist visits this lake to get bathe and offer ritual during Janaipurnina (full moon during August). Furthermore, the lake has a mythical belief that says the almighty lord shiva penetrates the land by his trident and made this lake. Besides, interesting mythical stories and fact, Gosainkunda offer magnificent natural views including, 24/7 snow caped, towering mountains, Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal etc. Moreover, the exhilarating views landscape and more lakes like Sarashwati Kunda, Bhairab kunkda, surya Kunda provides us with ample feed to makes our time worthwhile.

Day 06: Trek from Ghopte to Melamchi Goun (2,470 m) 5-6 hrs.

Today, our trail slightly descends from Ghopte for half any hour, then move uphill trail through a lush forest comprises with rhododendron, juniper, oak and pine trees until we reach at Tharepati. All along the trail, we will get enough feed for our hungry eyes from the magnificent views of Jugal and Numbur Mountain, lush forest; with rhododendron, oak, pine and juniper tree and beautiful Helambu Valley. Ultimately, we will arrive at Melamchi Gaon, surrounded by gorgeous forests, inhabited by Sherpas. Upon arrival at Melamchi Goun, we will go to stroll around village, visit monasteries.

Day 07: Trek from Melamchi Gaon to Tarkeghyang (2743m.) takes about three hours.

After having breakfast at Melamchi Goun, we move ahead by descending downhill towards today’s scheduled destination, Tarkeghyang. Along all the way to Tarkeghyang, the nature gets us acquainted with beautiful forest, quaint villages, and lower mountain farmland. After fin to six hours enjoyable hiking, we will arrive at Tarkeghyang, settlement of Hyolmo people who considered in Buddhist religion, has many beautiful Monasteries in the village.

Days 08: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Shermathang (2621m.) takes about five hours.

As usual, the day starts to hike, after having breakfast, relatively, the day will be easier than previous days as our trail leads us with flat and semi downhill. During trail, we will get chance to see people livelihood, beautiful villages with traditional houses. Finally, we arrive at Shermathang, mostly populated by Hyolmo People, and the village has old monasteries. Upon arrival at this place, we will have time to stroll around to explore village and get acquainted with locals.

Day 09: Trek from Shermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (846m.)

The path takes us downhill trail through widened farmland, cultivated seasonal crops, and pasture land. On the way, you come across several old villages with their own particular traditions. Stay overnight at lodge.

Day 10: Drive from Melamchi Pul Bazaar to Kathmandu takes about five hours.
