The Everest Base Camp trek, widely popular among adventurers, will take you to the core of the Himalayas to the base camp of the tallest mountain on the planet –Mount Everest.
The trek generally lasts for 10 to 10 plus days and covers the trail beginning from Lukla. Lukla is a small airport, known as the gate of Everest, which connects flights with Kathmandu and another seasonal airport Manthali.
After having a 30-minute flight with a small aircraft to Lukla, the trek begins and follows the popular Sherpa villages including Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Tengboche. Trekkers pass dense forests and alpine meadows before reaching higher altitude villages such as Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshape up to the final destination, Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters.
From this journey, one can have views of the mount Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse among others, interact with the Sherpa people, and experience the mountains of tough terrains. Many add a twist to the traditional experience of trekking and use the services of a helicopter to cut down the time.
This option offers a highly efficient way of getting back to Kathmandu in less than an hour; a comfortable and scenic mode of travel as compared to having to trek back for several days. The helicopter ride cost is much higher than trekking; however, it offers a thrilling ride over the Himalayas and saves time for the tiring return trip. However, the flight is planned according to the weather conditions; changes constantly occur; therefore, it is almost impossible to remain at the proposed point for several consecutive days.
Taking the EBC trek together with the helicopter return is a great combination of the thrilling experience and the comfortable return in one beautiful package which is attractive to many tourists.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will participate in a pre-trek briefing with a trek leader and other fellow trekkers at the Go Trekking Nepal office. The briefing provides necessary information about the trek such as safety precautions, ensuring the packing list, and the schedule for the day will be discussed during this meeting.
In the evening, you will be invited to a welcome dinner that is organized by Go Trekking Nepal in a local restaurant with some typical Nepali meals; mostly Dal Bhat, lentil soup, Momo, and others if available. The first day in Kathmandu must be taken as a chance to get used to the surroundings, organize the trek, and feel a little bit about how the cultural side of your adventure is going to look.
Early in the morning, our trek leader escorts trekkers to the domestic airport to catch a flight to Lukla. As you know Lukla is a small airport, located in the lap of mountains, and small aircraft can land and take off from here.
Having a 30-minute airstrip with a spectacular scene, reach Lukla, the gateway of the Everest Region. We will short out our baggage and meet trekking assistants who will help us carry baggage to the Base Camp.
After shorting our bag pack, we start trekking. The trail gradually descends alongside Dudhkoshi River. The trail passes through the lush forest of juniper, pines, etc.
We will cross some suspension bridges over the Dudhkoshi River. In a 3 to 4-hour trek, we reach Phakding, our overnight stay place.
