The journey to Mera Peak trekking begins with an adventurous flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. As you know, Lukla is the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, the trail takes you through picturesque Sherpa settlements.
The dense forest of rhododendrons and pine decorates the trail, and across high mountain passes. The route traverses the less-traveled Hinku Valley, offering trekkers a unique and serene experience.
One of the most striking aspects of the Mera Peak expedition is the incredible variety of landscapes encountered along the way. Trekkers will pass through verdant forests, glacial rivers, and alpine meadows.
The trek gradually ascends, providing ample time for acclimatization and minimizing the risk of altitude sickness. Rest days are strategically planned at higher altitudes to ensure climbers are well-prepared for the final push to the summit.
As climbers reach Mera Base Camp, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and awe-inspiring. The Mera Peak base camp is located at around 5,300 meters altitude. The base camp serves as the launching pad for a summit attempt.
From here, the route to Mera High Camp involves navigating through a rocky and icy terrain. The view adds to the adventure and excitement of the climb. The high Camp, situated at approximately 5,800 meters, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and the anticipation of the forthcoming summit day.
The summit day is the most challenging and rewarding part of the Mera Peak climb. Our experienced mountain climbing leader guides you on a midnight ascent to Mera Peak. They ensure a strategic and safe climb. This early start maximizes favorable weather conditions, allowing us to reach the summit by dawn.
Reaching the summit of Mera Peak is an exhilarating achievement. The sunrise from the peak offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the Himalayas. The view offers a 360-degree panorama of some of the highest mountains in the world, including Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu.
As per your flight schedule, our representative will come to pick you up at the airport holding a sign of our company, Go Trekking Nepal.
Due to limited infrastructure, the visa and customs clearance process may take longer than expected. Please be patient, as you have to go through the necessary procedures. No worries, our representative will be eagerly waiting for you.
After completing your visa and customs clearance, you will be greeted with a traditional Nepalese garland and escorted to a comfortable hotel.
This journey from the airport to the hotel will give you your first glimpse of the vibrant city life and cultural richness of Nepal.
Once you are settled in a hotel, attend a briefing on the Mera Peak climb. Our experienced guide will outline the trek itinerary, safety information, and tips for success. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions and finalize preparations.
In the evening, you will enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepali restaurant. It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow trekkers, check out Nepali cuisine, and enjoy cultural performances, setting the tone for your adventure and immersing you in Nepal’s warm hospitality
On the second day of the Mera Peak Climbing Tour, we will visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites, starting from the Bounddha Nath, the Biggest Stupa in the world, enjoying visiting monasteries nearby.
Pasupathi Nath temple is the second place of today’s heritage site city tour. The biggest Hindu temple of lord shiva, located on the bank of Bagmati River, cremating bodies in the river. We may encounter with holy men, smearing ashes in the body with dread luck here.
Today’s last, but not least, visiting site is Swayambhu Nath, aka Monkey Temple, located at the top of the hill on the west side of Kathmandu. The monkey temple has several shrines, offering rituals by Buddhists and Hindus, consisting of its premises.
Having done any enjoyable city tour, trekkers may have time to go shopping if any personal items need to be purchased.
Overnight at the hotel.
Early in the morning, we will take a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. A thirty-minute scenic mountain airstrip, with a small aircraft, carrying 19 passengers, drops at the gateway to the Everest region. The flight offers spectacular views of the Himalayan mountains, including Everest, and beautiful Himalayan foothills down below.
Upon landing at Lukla’s Tenzing-Hillary Airport, one of the most exhilarating and challenging airstrips in the world due to its short runway and mountainous terrain, we will meet your trekking crew and begin our adventure.
The trek starts with a gradual descent from Lukla. The trail passes through small villages and terraced fields. You will traverse lush rhododendrons and pine forests, occasionally glimpses of distant snow-capped peaks.
After 5 to 6 hours of trekking, the Mera peak Climbing team arrive at Paiya, a small village situated at an altitude of 2,730 meters. Here, you will settle into a tea house for the night, enjoying your first experience of Himalayan hospitality and preparing for the days ahead.
Overnight in a local lodge.
The trek continues with a steady ascent from Paiya and, the trail gradually gains altitude as our journey goes deeper into the Himalayan foothills.
We’ll traverse diverse landscapes, from dense forests of rhododendrons and magnolia to widened pastures and terraced fields, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
Along the way of Mera Peak Trek, we’ll pass through traditional Sherpa villages where we can observe local customs and lifestyle, providing insight into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
After 7 to 8 hours of trekking, we’ll reach Pangkoma, a typical Sherpa village, situated amidst verdant hills at an altitude of 2,846 meters. Here, we’ll stay overnight in a tea house, enjoying warm hospitality and preparing for the next day of our journey deeper into the heart of the Himalayas.
Overnight at Pangkoma
Leaving behind Pangkoma, the trail of Mera Peak Climbing continues with a scenic route. It leads us through the pristine forests and alongside crystal-clear mountain streams.
The path ascends gradually, passing through tranquil landscapes adorned with blooming rhododendrons and junipers, offering occasional glimpses of distant snow-capped peaks.
As we progress step, we will traverse traditional Sherpa settlements, where we can interact with locals and immerse ourselves in their unique culture and hospitality.
The day’s trek will end as we will arrive at Ningbo, a peaceful village nestled at about 2,860 meters. We’ll spend the night in a comfortable tea house, recharging for the upcoming adventures in the Himalayan wilderness.
Overnight at Nimbo
The trail begins from Nigbo, descending through dense forests of bamboo and rhododendrons.
We, the team of Mera peak Trekkers, will cross suspension bridges over spanning fast-flowing mountain streams, adding an element of adventure to our journey.
Enjoy the tranquil surroundings as we follow the trail along the Hinku River, with occasional views of snow-capped peaks in the distance.
After 7 to 8 hours of trekking, we will arrive at Chhatra Khola, located at an altitude of 2,800 meters. We will settle into a teahouse for the night, resting and preparing for the next day’s trek deeper into the Himalayas.
Overnight at Chhatra Khola
After a hearty breakfast at Chhatra Khola, we will start the trek following the trail along the Hinku River.
Mera Peak Trekking group will enjoy trekking through lush forests of rhododendrons and bamboo, with the trail gradually ascending.
We Cross suspension bridges over roaring rivers below. It is an enhancing sense of adventure.
As we climb higher, the landscape opens up its stunning views of snow-capped peaks and rugged terrain. It seems they spotted here to welcome us.
We will arrive at Kothe, a beautiful settlement situated at 3,691 meters. We will rest and recharge in a local lodge, soaking in the serene mountain atmosphere in preparation for the days ahead.
Overnight at Kothe
After having a wonderful rest at Kothe, the Mera Peak Climbers group begins the trek, following the Hinku Valley’s trail as it goes uphill steadily.
The trail leads us through alpine meadows and along the glacial rivers, with jaw-dropping views of surrounding peaks.
You will pass through small yak pastures and temporary settlements used by local herders.
The trekkers team will enjoy a gradual uphill trail, providing ample time for acclimatization.
After 5 to 6 hours of trekking efforts, we will reach Thangnag, located at an altitude of 4,358 meters, where we will stay overnight in a tea house. This higher elevation stoppage helps your body adjust to the altitude, preparing you for the climb ahead.
Overnight at Thangnag
Depart from Thangnag and continue stepping uphill trails along the glacier-fed rivers, with the trail becoming steeper. So, carefully stepping is highly required.
We’ll traverse a stark and beautiful alpine landscape, surrounded by cone shapes, towering peaks, and glacial moraines.
Mera Peak Trekking group will steadily climb up to Dig Glacier, where we enjoy stunning views of Charpate Himal.
The continuous trail towards Khare, with the trail offering increasingly panoramic views as we gain altitude.
Once we arrive at Khare, situated at 5,045 meters, we will spend two nights here. This stoppage helps us further acclimatization and preparation for easy reach to our ultimate destination, the Mera Peak.
Overnight at Khare.
We will spend the day in Khare to acclimatize to the higher altitude, minimizing or preventing the risk of altitude sickness.
We will take part with our climbing leader in a short acclimatization hike around Khare to higher altitudes. The day tour nearby ridges for better views and further acclimatization.
Trekkers will enjoy stunning views of Mera Peak and other surrounding mountains during their hikes.
We will use the time to rest, rehydrate, and prepare our gear for the upcoming climb.
Overnight in a lodge, ensuring we are well-rested and ready for the ascent to Mera High Camp.
We will begin the trek from Khare. The trail ascends steadily towards Mera High Camp.
As we gain altitude, the trail traverses through rocky terrain and glacial moraines, with the trail becoming more challenging. Furthermore, air pressure gets thinner.
On the trail, we enjoy stunning views of towering peaks such as Everest, Makalu, and Baruntse and more.
Taking frequent breaks to acclimatize and hydrate is highly required, ensuring a safe ascent.
When we arrive at Mera High Camp, situated at 5,800 meters, set up camp, and prepare for the early morning summit push. Enjoy the stunning sunset.
In the evening, involving in a final orientation talk with our climbing leader, who has observed the situation around the peak and the trail we are following tomorrow.
We will start climbing early, likely around midnight, to take advantage of the best weather conditions.
Trekkers will climb through snow and ice using crampons, ice axes, and ropes, following our climbing guide’s lead.
The spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas as we approach the summit, will welcome all Mera peak climber team.
Once we reach the summit of Mera Peak (6,476m), we enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and other majestic peaks.
After celebrating your achievement, reaching at Mera Peak summit, and capturing photos, you honor your country by hoisting your national flag at the summit before beginning the descent.
Carefully retrace our steps back to Mera High Camp for a brief rest. We continue to descend to Khare, where we will spend the night in a lodge, recuperating from the strenuous climb.
We trek from Khare to Kothe with great memories, having successfully summited Mera Peak, and sharing stories and experiences along the trail.
The trail descends gradually, allowing us to take in the breathtaking scenery of the Himalayas. As we leave Khare (5,045 meters), the path winds through alpine meadows and past rugged terrains, offering spectacular views of Mera Peak and other surrounding peaks.
Overnight in Kothe.
The trek from Kothe to Thuli Kharka is a beautiful and rewarding journey, offering trekkers stunning views and the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Hinku Valley.
This section of the trek involves a significant uphill trail, taking you from the lush forests of Kothe to the high-altitude pastures of Thuli Kharka.
About halfway through the trek, we will reach the village of Nangkha Dingma. This small settlement offers a chance to rest and interact with the local Sherpa community.
Our Mera Peak Climbing team will relax and take in the serene beauty of Thuli Kharka. We enjoy a warm meal and gather to share stories from the day’s trek.
Overnight in Thuli Kharka
Today is our final day of trekking back to Lukla. The day will start with an early breakfast. It energizes our final day of trekking and crossing the pass, Zatrwa La Pass (4,600 m).
Once we reach the top of the pass, the exhilarating views of Dhudh Koshi Valley, Khumbu Regions, and several mountain peaks spot. We will stop for a moment in taking photos and videos.
Descending from Zatrwa La Pass, the trail goes steeply down, rocky, and slippery, and requires careful steps. To balance and reduce the strain on our knees, trekking poles are essential.
After several hours of effort, we will reach Lukla, check into a lodge, refresh with a hot shower.
In the evening, we gather for a celebratory dinner, reflecting on the incredible journey, Climbing Mera Peak, we have undertaken. The sense of accomplishment and camaraderie is palpable as we share stories and laughter.
After having a wonderful evening, we will hand over reasonable tips to the crew who helped us complete the “Mera Peak Climbing Trip”. Say goodbye!
We will proceed to Lukla Airport to catch the flight back to Kathmandu. The adventurous flight offers a final chance to see the stunning Himalayan views from the air.
The short but scenic flight takes us about 30-40 minutes, offering spectacular views of the mountains and Himalayan foothills below.
Upon landing in Kathmandu, our car or van will be waiting to collect us and then drive to the hotel. The bustling city, Thamel, welcomes us back with its vibrant atmosphere and cultural richness.
The rest of the day is free for relaxation or exploration. We can relax at the hotel, visit local markets, or explore some of Kathmandu’s cultural landmarks.
In the evening, we will enjoy a farewell dinner, organized by Go Trekking Nepal, at a local restaurant, celebrating the successful completion of our journey and the adventures we’ve experienced.
As per flight details, pack your belongings 3 hours in advance of airport check-in time, and prepare for your departure. Take some time to enjoy a final breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Kathmandu.
