Everest Renjo La Pass Trek route is less busy, unlike the classic Evers Base Camp Trek. However, it offers an unparalleled adventure experience. The pass is one of among three famous high passes in the Everest region. The Renjo la trip experience combines natural beauty, cultural richness, and the thrill of high-altitude trekking.
The journey starts with 30-minute scenic flights from Kathmandu to Lukla. The Renjo La pass trekkers traverse through the bustling Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar, the vibrant heart of Sherpa culture. Here, trekkers acclimatize and explore local markets and monasteries, all set against the backdrop of Everest and its neighboring giants.
One of the highlights of this trek is crossing the Renjo La Pass (5335m), a challenging yet rewarding high pass. It is one of them among three high passes, and offers breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
Having crossed Renjo La, trekkers will descend towards Gokyo Lakes, a series of turquoise glacial lakes that are among the most beautiful sights in the Himalayas. The trek also includes a hike to Gokyo Ri (5360m), which offers one of the best vantage points for a 360-degree view of the Everest massif and surrounding peaks.

Upon landing at Kathmandu airport, proceeding to obtain a visa and collecting luggage, may take time in peak season, but our staff member will be waiting patiently in the waiting area. Once done required procedure and you come out, our staff member, holding a placard, will greet you by offering a flower garland and drive you to the hotel in Kathmandu.
We check into the hotel refresh and go to the Go Trekking Nepal office for further documentation, briefing, and meeting other fellow trekkers. If you like to explore the busting tourist market Thamel then you will have time to explore. Thamel is the vibrant tourist hub of Kathmandu as there are gift shops, hotels, restaurants, etc.
In the evening, you will be invited to attend a welcome dinner party organized by Go Trekking Nepal in a restaurant in Kathmandu. You will have an opportunity to meet up with other fellow trekkers who are doing the Everest Renjo La Pass Trekking with you and induce with the Trek leader.
At 8 AM, our tour leader will escort you to explore the UNESCO-listed World Heritage Sites around Kathmandu. This cultural tour will give you an insight into the rich history and vibrant culture of Nepal.
Bouddhanath Stupa
Located in the northeastern part of Kathmandu, Bouddhanath Stupa is the largest stupa in Nepal and one of the largest in the world. It is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists, especially for Tibetan Buddhists.
The stupa is built on a massive mandala structure. The colorful monasteries around the stupa make the atmosphere serene.
Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest and largest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is situated on the banks of the Bagmati River. The temple has extensive areas featuring a multitude of temples, shrines, ashrams, etc. Some holy men, with deadlock hair, smearing asses, and holding tridents, roam around the temple premises.
The sacred rituals are offered in the main temple which stands in a pagoda style. The Gghats (crematory) where cremations are performed.
Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple)
The Swaayabhu Nath is also known as the Monkey Temple. Swayambhunath Stupa is one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal. Located on a hilltop, it offers panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley.
The iconic white stupa with a golden spire, the all-seeing eyes of Buddha, and the playful monkeys that inhabit the area.
Kathmandu Durbar Square
Kathmandu Durbar Square is a historic plaza situated in the center of the old city. It encompasses a collection of palaces, courtyards, and temples, showcasing the artistic and architectural brilliance of the Malla kings.
The Kumari Temple adds to the cultural richness of Kathmandu Durbar Square, offering a glimpse into Nepal’s unique traditions and spiritual heritage.
The late afternoon will be time for preparing for your upcoming trek. This includes a briefing on the trekking itinerary, checking your gear, and ensuring you have everything you need for the journey ahead.
Early morning, we drive to the Kathmandu Domestic Airport to catch a flight to Lukla. We will take the first flight, board a 19-seated small aircraft, and enjoy a mountain view.
In 30 minutes, scenic airstrip we will reach Lukla and land at Tenzing Hilary Airport. We meet fellow crews who are helping us carry the load until the completion of our Everest Renjo La Pass Trekking.
After shorting our stuff, we gradually descend and follow the trek leader towards Phakding,
We begin the trek from Phakding, ascending gradually through beautiful pine forests and crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. The suspension bridges are decorated with prayer flags.
Occasionally, we encounter caravans of mules carrying loads on this narrow trail. It’s important to be cautious around them, as their loads may accidentally push trekkers.
Along the trail, we enjoy stunning views of Mt. Everest and other peaks as we approach the vibrant Sherpa town, the Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters, the gateway to the Everest Region.
Staying overnight at Namche Bazaar
To help our bodies adjust to the harsh conditions and thin air at high altitudes, it’s essential to acclimatize. This involves practicing and adapting before reaching higher elevations where our system cannot easily function. Therefore, we acclimatize at Namche Bazaar for one day.
Our acclimatization day will be engaged with a lot of activities. We will Hike to nearby viewpoints such as the Everest View Hotel, which offers stunning panoramas of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks.
Moreover, we will visit Sherpa villages, Kungde and Khumjung, to experience local culture and see the Hillary School and a monastery that houses a purported yeti scalp.
If we have time, we will visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and explore the market of gift shops for trekking gear. It is better not to buy today as you have to carry the souvenir to the entire trek.
We can also capture stunning photos of the majestic mountains, beautiful landscapes, and the rich Sherpa culture.
Overnight Stay in Namche Bazaar
After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the lodge, we begin our trek from Namche Bazaar. The trail heads west along the Bhotekoshi River, following a route that once served as a famous trading path to Tibet.
As we walk, we’ll see the trail adorned with beautiful prayer flags, chhortens, and intricately carved mantras on rocks, adding a spiritual and picturesque element to our journey. We descend to the Bhote Koshi River before making an ascent towards Thame, our stopping point for the day.
Thame village holds historical significance as the birthplace of the legendary Everest climber, Mr. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. From Thame, we can admire the stunning views of Kwangde (6187m) and Teng Kangpoche (6500m), as well as the Nangpa La pass to the north, which leads into Tibet. While exploring Thame, we may visit the Thame Monastery, situated above the village, to immerse ourselves in local culture and spirituality.

As we leave Thame, the landscape gradually changes, becoming more rugged and remote. We traverse through alpine meadows and cross glacial streams, surrounded by towering mountains and pristine nature. Along the way, we might spot wildlife such as Himalayan goats, yaks, and various bird species that thrive in this high-altitude environment.
Upon reaching Lungden, we are rewarded with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and the tranquil beauty of the region. Lungden is a small, less-visited village that offers a peaceful retreat for trekkers. Here, we can interact with the locals, learn about their way of life, and appreciate the simplicity and resilience of mountain living.

Today will be the most exciting and challenging day of our trek, as we will cross the Renjo La Pass at 5360 meters. This strenuous hike, in the highest point of our trek and the longest trekking day, leads us through steep ascents and descents along sandy ridges.
The trail takes us over rocky paths and across rivers, passing yak pastures and pristine lakes along the way. As we reach higher altitudes, the air becomes thinner, and we may feel the effects of lower oxygen levels. If anyone experiences difficulty breathing, we will communicate with our trek leader to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.
Upon reaching the pass, we are rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of some of the world’s highest peaks: Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7879m), Makalu (8481m), Cholaste (6335m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m), Tabuche Peak (6495m), and Gyachung Kang (7922m). The view from Renjo La Pass is truly magnificent, offering a sense of accomplishment and awe.
Reaching the Renjo La pass is a triumph for us. We take photos and videos, for memory and social site sharing, in high pass. After crossing Renjo La pass, we descend towards Gokyo Lakes. The trail downwards, though challenging, offers incredible views and leads us to the tranquil and stunning Gokyo Lakes. These high-altitude lakes, famous for their striking blue color, are considered sacred by the local Sherpa people.
Upon arrival at Gokyo, we settle into a teahouse for the night. If we have time, the trek leader takes us to explore around.
Overnight Stay in Gokyo Lake
After a restful night, trekkers will spend the day exploring the enchanting Gokyo Lake and its surroundings. The serene, turquoise waters of the lake provide a perfect backdrop for a day of relaxation and discovery.
Today’s major adventurous activity is to climb up Gokyo Ri, a peak standing at 5,357 meters. The ascent is strenuous but rewarding. It offers stunning, panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The climb provides a sense of triumph to trekkers and awe as tehy take in the breathtaking scenery from the summit.
After retracing from Gokyo Ri, we have the rest of the day to continue exploring the area, The Gokyo Lakes region is rich with opportunities for photography. In the evening, we return to our teahouse for a well-deserved rest, reflecting on the memorable experiences of the day.
Overnight Stay at Gokyo Lakes
Today, we continue the trek from the Gokyo Lakes towards Dole, situated at an altitude of 4200 meters. The trail takes us through picturesque landscapes, with views of snow-capped peaks and lush valleys.
Leaving Gokyo behind, we descend gradually, passing by mountain streams and the beautiful village of Sherpas. The tail provides glimpses of local life and traditional architecture, providing insights into the Sherpa culture.
Upon reaching Dole, we check into a teahouse, enjoying the peaceful ambiance and reflecting on the experiences of the day. Dole’s serene surroundings and clear mountain air provide a perfect setting for relaxation after a rewarding day of trekking.
Overnight Stay in Dole
Today, we trek from Dole back to Namche Bazaar. The trail retraces our steps through picturesque valleys and typical Sherpa villages, offering familiar yet captivating views of the Himalayan landscape.
Leaving Dole, we descend gradually, passing through Phortse Tenga. We cross dense forests and mountain streams. The path provides opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty of the region and observe local flora and fauna.
As we approach Namche Bazaar, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The bustling markets and vibrant atmosphere of Namche welcome us back, providing a perfect conclusion to our trek through the Everest region.
Upon reaching Namche, we settle into our lodge for the night, reminiscing about our journey, Everest Renjo La Pass Trek, and enjoying the comforts of this lively mountain town.
Overnight Stay in Namche Bazaar
Today marks our final trekking day of trekking, as we trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. The trail takes us through familiar paths, retracing our steps through lush forests, charming villages, and scenic landscapes.
Leaving Namche Bazaar behind, we descend steadily, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. The trail offers occasional glimpses of Everest and other towering peaks in the distance, reminding us of the majestic journey we’ve undertaken.
As we approach Lukla, the bustling hub of the Khumbu region and the gateway of Everest, we reflect on the memories and achievements of our Everest Renjo La Pass Trek.
Upon arrival in Lukla, we settle into our lodge. We celebrate the successful completion of our trek with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the breathtaking experiences shared along the way.
Overnight Stay in Namche Bazaarr
We board a scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu, marking the final leg of our adventure in the Everest region. The flight offers spectacular aerial views of the Himalayan peaks and valleys below, providing a memorable conclusion to our trekking journey.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will be transferred to our hotel and take some time to relax and reflect on the incredible experiences of the past days. We will have time to explore the vibrant streets of Kathmandu, shop for souvenirs, or simply enjoy a well-deserved rest, this day allows us to unwind and savor the memories of our Himalayan expedition.
Today marks the departure of your onward flight from Kathmandu. As per your flight schedule, the airport transfer will be arranged accordingly.
Later, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight, bidding farewell to Nepal with cherished memories of your adventure in the Everest region.
