Ensuring Safety for Trekkers

Today, the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) issued a letter to all its associate members regarding a directive from the Langtang National Park office. The park authorities have requested TAAN to ensure that, effective immediately, all trekkers entering Langtang National Park must be accompanied by a guide.

This decision comes in response to the harsh weather conditions, extreme cold, and challenging terrain, which have led to incidents of trekkers going missing, suffering accidents, and even facing fatal consequences. Therefore, it is now mandatory for both local and foreign trekkers to hire a guide before entering Langtang National Park.

Some important questions remain unanswered in the official letter. Can trekkers hire independent guides, or must they go through registered agencies? Does this rule apply only to individual trekkers, or are larger groups also required to have guides?

Go Trekking Nepal will reach out to TAAN and the Directorate of Langtang National Park to seek clarification on these matters. We will keep our clients and trekkers informed as soon as we receive further updates.
