Gosainkunda Helambu Trek is one of the astonishing trekking routes in the Langtang Trekking Region, easy, closest starts after having an hour’s drive from the busy Kathmandu. The trekking route leads us from 1,300m up to 4400m elevation, provides a complete package of experience of both nature and culture.
The Gosainkunda Helambu Trek starts nearby the Shivapuri National Park, a reserved forest, comprises of lush forest. During initial days, a farming system in lower mountains, people, and their ethnic-culture, quaintly settled villages and livelihood make our trekking much enjoyable. Obviously, the beautiful landscape of uncountable hills, valleys, farmland, and snow-capped mountains get amazed us throughout the trek. While our footsteps ascend towards High Mountain, the views around will simultaneously be changed into more spectacular.

Upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport, our staff member, holding a placard with the Go Trek Nepal sign, will welcome you and transfer you to a hotel. Once you have checked in, you’ll have time to freshen up and rest. In the evening, you can explore the vibrant tourist hub of Thamel. Later, GTN will host a welcome dinner, providing an excellent opportunity to break the ice with your trek leader and crew. This is also a good time to ask any questions about the upcoming trek.
After breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive to Dhunche, the starting point of our trek. The journey begins with a drive out of Kathmandu Valley, followed by winding roads up to Kakani Hill Station, then descending towards Trishuli Bazaar. Along the way, enjoy views of the Langtang and Manaslu mountain ranges, quaint villages, traditional houses, and farmland. From Betrawati, the road ascends to Dhunche, where we’ll explore the village, check the internet, and stay overnight.
After a delicious breakfast, we start our trek by following a motor road to the Ghatte Khola River. We cross a short suspension bridge and continue along the riverbank to a rocky uphill trail t hoursough a lush forest of rhododendron, oak, and other tree species. After several hours of trekking, we reach Dimsa Village for lunch, then continue to Shin Gompa, home to a Buddhist Monastery and a Himalayan cheese factory. Upon arrival, we’ll check into a tea house lodge and explore the village, enjoying magnificent views of Langtang, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal.
Today is an exciting day as we reach the highest point of our trek, Gosainkunda Lake. After breakfast, we trek uphill, enjoying beautiful landscapes and breathtaking mountain views. We pass Chandanbari, a mountainous dairy center, and continue through steep pastures to our lunch point at Lauribina. From there, we ascend a steep hill to Gosainkunda, a glacial lake considered holy by Hindus. The lake has a mythical significance, with the legend of Lord Shiva creating it with his trident. Besides the fascinating stories, Gosainkunda offers stunning natural views, including towering mountains like Langtang Lirung, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal, as well as other lakes like Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, and Surya Kunda.
We start the day with a descent from Gosainkunda, moving through rugged terrain and lush forests of rhododendron, juniper, oak, and pine trees. We reach Tharepati, enjoying magnificent views of the Jugal and Numbur Mountain ranges, lush forests, and the beautiful Helambu Valley. Finally, we arrive at Ghopte, where we explore the village and stay overnight.
After breakfast, we descend from Ghopte for about half an hour, then move uphill through lush forests to Tharepati. The trail offers magnificent views of Jugal and Numbur Mountain, lush forests, and beautiful Helambu Valley. Eventually, we reach Melamchi Gaon, a village surrounded by gorgeous forests and inhabited by Sherpas. Upon arrival, we explore the village and visit the monasteries.
After breakfast at Melamchi Gaon, we descend to our next destination, Tarkeghyang. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful forest, quaint villages, and lower mountain farmland. After a few hours of hiking, we arrive at Tarkeghyang, home to the Hyolmo people and many beautiful monasteries.
After breakfast, we start our hike on a relatively easier trail, mostly flat and semi-downhill. We pass through beautiful villages with traditional houses, observing the local lifestyle. Finally, we reach Shermathang, a village mostly populated by the Hyolmo people, with old monasteries. Upon arrival, we explore the village and get acquainted with the locals.
We follow a downhill trail through extensive farmland, cultivated seasonal crops, and pastures. Along the way, we pass through several old villages, each with its own unique traditions. We stay overnight at a lodge in Melamchi Pul Bazaar.
After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu, completing our trekking adventure.
